Courses & Workshops
Courses are held 3 hours each day, 5 days a week for 4 weeks. Recommended credit hours are shown in parentheses, below. For each language level, classes are taught in 3 sections (one hour per session) including: grammar, phonetics and conversation. One credit hour is equivalent to 15 hours of class. Courses are conducted in French.

French Language
Elementary French—Cours pratique
French
101 (4)
A cours pratique concentrates on acquisition of vocabulary, grammar,
oral comprehension and written and spoken expression. Instruction is
in groups according to ability. Suitable for absolute beginners or for students
with some high school French. This course meets 3 hours a day, 5 days
a week.
Intermediate French—Cours pratique
French 201 (4)
Suitable
for students who have mastered the elementary level. Stress on formal grammar.
Examples of varying French styles used to improve awareness of idiom.
This course meets 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Advanced French—Cours
pratique
French 301 (4)
Aspects of language and style, text analysis and
dissertation. Classes are given at both 301 and 401 levels. This course
meets 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Optional Non-Credit Courses
In addition to courses for formal academic credit, Summer Advantage offers these optional non-credit courses in the afternoon or evening.
History of French
Fashion and Design
French fashion—the history of fashion and design. Visits
to fashion museums and boutiques included in the course. Taught in English.
Meets 15 hours. Held only if a minimum of 10 students enroll. A fee of $150
must be paid before departure.
French Cuisine
Basic techniques and regional
variety of French cuisine. Dishes are prepared and sampled by the students.
Fee of $250 for the three, 3-hour sessions must be paid before departure.
Taught in English. Held only if a minimum of 10 students enroll.
